The 2012 Summer Olympic Games start in London in seven days time and to get you into the mood for the feast of great sporting action which lies ahead I’ve put together some of the best Olympic Games quotes. My list starts off with a quote from one of the greatest track and field stars to have ever graced athletics, Jesse Owens (1913-1980) , and there’s also great quotes from other Olympic winners including Mark Spitz and Florence Griffith Joyner, as well as some of the best funny Olympic Games quotes too.

  1. Some excellent quotes. My favourite was the quote from Wilma Rudolph about winning three gold medals after being told she would never walk again. Really inspirational.

    I also like this more light-hearted quote from Jimmy Carr: “The 2012 Olympics is going to cost £8 billion which is a lot of money. It’ll probably bankrupt London. But you can’t put a price on two bronze medals in cycling.” A bit negative but I found it amusing.
